A Damn Good Run for Me II

This is the follow up to my previous post.

As I wrote, after finding out I contracted Covid I had to quarantine myself for several days. I've been quarantined, mostly locked up in my room, for almost two weeks. So, if you're wondering what I've been doing these last two weeks, well, I've been on a Star Wars marathon.

I had already watched eight of the Star Wars movies. I had not watched "The Rise of Skywalker" yet, so I decided to watch it a couple of days ago. It turned out to be a great movie. It would have been nice if I had watched it sooner, it's been out for quite a while already but I just hadn't gotten around to watching it even though I had already paid for it and could have watched it at any time.

But if you're wondering why I've been on a Star Wars marathon, it's because the very first Star Wars movie, "Episode IV: A New Hope," was released when I was nine years old. That movie was ahead of its game when it came to sound effects, special effects, content, etc. And the theme music was great. You can imagine a nine year old at the movies watching Star Wars for the first time way back in 1977. I was captivated! It quickly became one of my favorite movies.

As the years went by and more episodes were released I watched them all, except for episode nine which I watched just a couple of days ago.

I also finished watching "Rogue One" just a few minutes ago and now I'm getting ready to watch "Solo: A Star Wars Story."

As for "The Mandalorian," series, I finished watching all season one and season two episodes last night.

A Damn Good Run for Me

Wow! I really didn't think it would happen, but I've been had! Now I find myself quarantined for a couple of weeks.

A few months ago, after being confined to home schooling my youngest niece was allowed to attend classes in person. Not more than a couple of weeks later she got sick. She got her brother and sister and other members of the family sick also. But it was not the Corona virus. It was just a common cold or flu.

For a moment I felt invincible and didn't think I would get sick. But sure enough I also got sick. And it was a nasty virus. Not the Covid-19 virus (my niece was tested and the results came back negative), but a nasty virus none-the-less.

It was disgusting. I had a nasty runny nose that lasted for days.

Eventually it went away. And I remained happy that Covid-19 still had not got me. By now it had been two years since the pandemic had begun and I had avoided contracting the nasty illness.

That changed this last week. Wednesday night I noticed I had a runny nose. Thursday was my day off so I slept most of the day anyway. Friday morning I went to work and as I sat outside in my car before start time I realized I felt weak. I just didn't feel like I had the energy to work four hours, much less eight hours. And at my job, sometimes we have to work ten hours. As I sat in my car I realized I couldn't do it. So I went into the building and talked to my supervisor. I told her I didn't feel well and that I wanted to go home. I asked for time off.

By her reaction I could see that she wasn't buying it. It's as if she thought I was just slacking off and trying to take some time off. Eventually she let me go so I returned home. I slept most of the day.

Saturday was my regular day off so I didn't go to work. I didn't do much. Mostly I stayed in my room and watched videos. I could still feel the illness. It felt like a light cold or a mild flu. I had a runny nose and had trouble falling asleep at night.

Sunday I reported to work again and went straight to HR. I informed the lady at the desk that I went home Friday because I didn't feel well. I also informed her that I still had a drippy nose and preferred to go home.

"You may go home." She said. So I did.

Today I went to a clinic to have a rapid antigen test performed. A couple of hours later I got the results. I tested positive for SARS-Covid-2 (whatever that means). All I knew is that I had the virus and I had to stay home. So I went home and told my family members that I had to stay locked up downstairs in my room. They understood.

And so now, I'm locked up in my room typing this post.

I do have to say that it's been two years since the nasty virus emerged and for me to contract it two years later, it was a damn good run for me!

I avoided it like the devil flees holy water. But I did drop my guards. And I know where I dropped my guards. I will not let this happen again.
