Seems like forever, but it has always been a pet peeve of mine when people simply abandon their shopping carts anywhere in the parking lot. I can't understand why they do not have the courtesy to put the cart in the cart area.
Not too long ago I read this article regarding shopping carts and what it says about people:
https://getpocket.com/explore/item/people-think-what-you-do-with-your-shopping-cart-when-you-re-done-with-it-says-a-lot-about-you
I absolutely agree with the article. People who abandon their shopping carts anywhere in the parking lot are bad people. Period!
Today I went to Nob Hill for a couple of pumpkin pies. They will be for tomorrow's Thanksgiving dinner.
On my way back to my car I thought about the article. As I approached my car I saw a shopping cart that had been half-haphazardly abandoned in a parking space. It was towards the front of the parking space and a definite obstacle for anyone who would want to park in that space. The person would have had to get out of their car and move the cart somewhere else.
Yeah, that's exactly why people who abandon their carts anywhere in the parking lot are bad people. Others have to do their work.
Anyway, I continued to my car, loaded my groceries into my car and then I walked my cart to the shopping cart area. I returned to my car and got in.
Just in front of me, slightly towards my left, a man in a red car had loaded groceries into his car and simply abandoned his cart in the parking space next to it. The man got into his car, turned it on, and was beginning to back out of the parking space. As I sat there in my car and watched the scene, the cart rolled down the parking space and mysteriously stopped just behind his car. His car had one of those sensing features that notifies the driver when something is behind the vehicle so he stopped before hitting the shopping cart.
At this time another man had just left the store and was walking back to his car. I watched to see if he would move the shopping cart out of the way. He didn't. He continued to his car.
Immediately afterwards a young lady also walked out of the store and was on her way to her vehicle with her groceries in arms. The man in the red car still couldn't back out of his parking space because the shopping cart was just behind his car.
I saw the woman, being a Good Samaritan, proceed to move the cart out of his way. I rolled down my left side window and said to her,"Let them move their own cart, they left it there."
She just shook her head as if saying "You're unbelievable, how dare you?"
She proceeded to move the cart for the buffoon who abandoned it in the parking space next to his.
The Good Samaritan continued on to her car and the asshole man backed out of his parking space and began to drive away.
I began to pull out of my parking space and drive away, but first I rolled down my right side window and said to the Good Samaritan, "I really wanted to see them get out and move their own cart."
She replied with "Have a good evening." Meaning, she was finished conversing with me.
I rolled my window up and drove away.
As I drove away the thought that came to me was "Ma'am, you meant to be a Good Samaritan, instead you were his sucker!"
The moral of the story is: "Yes! People who abandon their shopping carts anywhere in the parking lot other than the cart area are ASSHOLES!"
