Marie Antoinette was not French. She was born November 2, 1755 in Vienna, Austria. She was born to Maria Theresa, empress of Austria and Holy Roman Emperor Francis I.
She was pledged to marry Louis-Auguste, the future King Louis XVI.
Their reign didn't go down in history very well. She was beheaded by the Revolutionary Tribunal. This is the same revolution led by Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary tribunal ended the French Monarchy.
Napoleon, as I have written in previous posts, is the weak link in the chain. It was Napoleon who sold the Louisiana Territory to the fledgling United States in 1803. Napoleon did not even lift a finger to fight for France's territories. He straight away signed on the dotted line and handed the Louisiana Territory to the U.S.
See my post "Cinco de Mayo," dated May 5, 2017.
Marie Antoinette was beheaded by the Revolutionary Tribunal. The French Monarchy ended and Napoleon took power, he sold out to the United States and the French and Spanish Empire in the New World ended.
Marie Antoinette is the one credited for the phrase "Let them eat cake."
