The Contradiction of Khan Academy

This post is a follow up to "Lesson Summary: The Spanish Empire II." It shows Khan Academy's contradiction.

In the fourth paragraph of the following article the author  writes "The first position of the casta series is always a Spanish man and an elite Indigenous woman, accompanied by their offspring: a mestizo, which denotes a person born of these two parents."

https://www.khanacademy.org/humanities/ap-art-history/early-europe-and-colonial-americas/colonial-americas/a/spaniard-and-indian-produce-a-mestizo-attributed-to-juan-rodriguez

In that sentence the author is acknowledging that the first position of the casta series is a mestizo, not a mulato. Therefore the pyramid shown on the following article is incorrect.

Mestizos and Mulatos were not viewed as equals in the social-economic structure. The Mestizo was viewed as higher in the social-economic ladder by virtue of not having African admixture.

An Astral Walk Through My Neighborhood

Last night I had another one of my astral projection experiences. A lucid dream, or out of body experience, whatever you want to call it.

I was in my neighborhood. I found myself at a nearby corner. The corner where a local convenience store is located. I walked across the main street, a boulevard, and then turned right and crossed the avenue. As I crossed the avenue I looked to my left. Down the street I saw many buildings. But the buildings didn't look like any of the buildings in my neighborhood. They were quite tall with high pitched roofs. As I walked across the street and I kept my sight on the buildings I could see the buildings as if in 3-D. I could clearly make out the buildings in the forefront, the ones in the middle, and the ones behind all the others and I could see them overlapped in a 3-D fashion. As I finished crossing the avenue and neared the other side of the street I was amazed when I saw an artistic sculpture that was pearlescent and appeared to glow against the rest of the dark environment.

I can't remember exactly what it was I just remember that it was an artistic sculpture. I looked at it in amazement. It stood out beautifully against everything else around it. It was night time and there were some lights on but otherwise it was dark all around that pearlescent sculpture. After a while I looked away from the sculpture and focused my attention on some buildings across the street. Those buildings also took on the same pearlescent glow. At this moment I realized that not only the sculpture was pearlescent but anything I focused my sight on appeared pearlescent.

As I continued to walk along the sidewalk I eventually woke up and found myself back in my bed. I stirred a bit and eventually fell back asleep and went into another dream.

Lesson Summary: The Spanish Empire II

This is just a follow up to my previous post. It was actually this statement that caught my attention.

"Interactions with Native Americans: Spanish colonizers attempted to integrate Native Americans into Spanish culture by marrying them and converting them to Catholicism. Although some Native Americans adopted aspects of Spanish culture, others decided to rebel."

It is so disgusting to write that "Spanish colonizers attempted to integrate Native Americans into Spanish culture by marrying them and converting them to Catholicism..."

What the F does the writer mean by "attempted?"

They actually did!

And, "Although some Native Americans adopted aspects of Spanish culture, others decided to rebel." What the F does the writer mean by "some?"

The f**king MAJORITY did! It was only a few who did not. And to this day the Mestizos hold a higher social-economic status than the pure Indians who didn't mix.

I'M TELLING IT LIKE IT IS! Not the way some f**ktard wants history to be.

Lesson Summary: The Spanish Empire

 My Analysis and Criticism:

As you scroll down the page you'll find a hierarchical pyramid which presumably portrays the casta system in Colonial Mexico (and the rest of Spanish America). Yes, they are partially correct. But they fail in their attempts to properly categorize the black race and their descendants. Beginning with Mulatoes (Mulatos in Spanish).

Yes, at the top of the pyramid were the Peninsulares, the Spaniards born in Spain. Below the hierarchy were the Criollos, the Spanish born in the Americas.

But the the third tier shit goes awfully wrong!

Mestizos were never at the same level as Mulatos.

Mestizos are people who are a mix of Spanish and Indian. Mulatos are people who are a mix of Spanish and black.

Their pyramid is therefore incorrect! The Spaniards clearly put the Indian above the black. So much so that it was in reality illegal to enslave the Indians where it was perfectly legal to enslave blacks. Yes I know! You will read and hear stories, some may have a historical basis to them, about Indians being enslaved. But what you will not read nor hear are historical factual accounts of Queen Isabela and the Catholic Church making it illegal to enslave the natives whereas they allowed the slavery of blacks. So, regardless of whether there was or wasn't enslavement of the natives, both the Spanish Crown and the Catholic Church prohibited it. Any enslavement of the natives that existed was against the law whereas any enslavement of blacks was perfectly legal!

Now, taking those facts into account any prudent person can surmise that the Spanish Crown and the Catholic Church put Indians above blacks. Therefore a mix of Spanish and Indian (Mestizo) was automatically placed above a mix of Spanish and black (Mulato). This preference for Indian over black can clearly be seen in Latin America where the majority of the people are Mestizo.

With the preceding facts in mind any astute student will see that the pyramid on the web page is incorrect. Mestizos and Mulatoes were not seen as equal and were not in the same level in the casta system.

Truth be said, blacks were at the very bottom of the casta system and the more black a person had in his background the lower the person ranked. Therefore a Mulatoe who was half black could never be ranked at the same level as a Mestizo who was half Indian.

Anyone who disagrees with me may do a more thorough research and eventually you will agree with me. Even if you do not like it.
