Cracker Sells Monkey a Home

Sitting here watching TV. A commercial comes on. It's a white woman Realtor who sells a house to a black man. Another black man shows up with his pet dog.

The first black man bought the house, because he used some type of app. The second black man, the one with his pet toy dog is left without the house.

The white woman, the Realtor, says something to the effect of feeling sorry for him because he didn't get the house. He replies that she should show her sympathies to "Carlos," his dog.

Oh really? A black man named his dorky dog Carlos?

I guess it's time for me to get a measly old mutt and name him Tobi, or maybe Kunta Kinte. Then I'll feed him a cracker.
Tobi, or Kunta Kinte, eating a cracker.

There She is Again

I found a couple of new pics of Mayra.

I like that T-shirt. She looks more mature in this pic.

Her Native features really stand out.

Gun Shots in the Night

I really debated with myself whether to make this post or not. It's not a pleasant post. You've been warned.

Over the weekend as I slept. I woke up, as I sometimes do, randomly at night. Typically I fall right back asleep. Sunday I woke up in the wee hours of the morning. As I lay in bed readying to go back to sleep I heard a gun shot. Damn! That sounded pretty close, I thought to myself. A few moments later I heard about four or five more gun shots. DAMN! They sounded really close. I wondered if someone had been shot.

Shortly afterwards I heard the paramedics arrive. Yep, something had happened. I knew it did not concern me so I rolled over to sleep. The following morning I opened the drapes and saw a police vehicle across the street. Maybe looking at security footage, I thought to myself.

Well, to make a long story short, the block around the corner from my house was cordoned off by the police. I found out that one of the guys who hangs out around the corner had been shot and killed.

Granted, I may not have been in the best of terms with the guys from around the corner, but may he rest in peace.

Red Sun

Sitting here in my room watching one of my favorite TV programs, Ancient Aliens.

Outside it's still daytime. I decide to go out and sit on my front porch and reminisce about old times.

I sat there and looked around. Up the street to the park I see a beautiful scene. I reminisce about the times when I would see the low-riders cruising down the street scraping and giving off sparks.

The scene was tranquil and peaceful. But it also looked hazy, slightly foggy. It was the smoke from the northern California fires.

I looked left towards the west. The sun was still well above the horizon. The hazy air gave it an orange-reddish look. I sat there and admired it for a while. At first I couldn't look straight into it for more than a second or two because it was still too bright. But after a few minutes, as it went down into deeper and thicker haze I could look at it directly. It was beautiful. It was red!

I decided to share this with my niece and nephew. I called them and told them to see. They saw and were in awe! My sister came out to see, then my brother-in-law also came out to see. All of us stood there on the porch and admired the beautiful red sun. As it hid behind the hazy cloud of smoke it became visible. Visible as in, we could all look directly at it. By now it was red.

Both my niece and my sister wanted pictures of it. They took out their phones and began to take pictures. Soon I heard their disappointment. The sun was not showing up red. It was showing up white! Both my sister and my niece continued to take pictures. Then I heard my sister say "I got it!" She had gotten a picture of it and it looked red. A minute or two later my niece also took a picture where it came out red.

Here is the sun just before it went behind the rooftop of a house across the street from us.

Wild Fires

California has quite a few wild fires each year. It's just the way it is. It's the way nature clears much of its unnecessary growth.

Unfortunately sometimes people's homes get in the way.

There have been several wild fires going on simultaneously here in Northern Cali. I can smell the smoke here in east Oakland. It's hazy outside. It's smoky. The wind has been blowing smoke here into the East Bay.

I remember a huge wild fire that occurred about twenty years ago. I was in Ione Cali at the time. I remember walking out of the lodge. The setting sun gave the smoky, hazy air a red appearance. As I looked around, everything appeared to me as if I was seeing the world through red lens.

The scene indeed looked apocalyptic.
