When our inner consciousness awakens we experience the higher worlds. We live in them, not just observe them nor simply remember them as we do during a normal dream. When our consciousness awakens we find ourselves there, in the astral world. Awake and fully conscious of where we are and what we do.
Some time ago I read a thread on a social site. A young lady asked if astral projection was just a dream.
The answer is yes and no. In a sense astral projection is a dream and in a sense it is not.
Samael Aun Weor wrote extensively on the subject. And from all the books on the subject I do believe he gives the most clear explanation of what it is. He wrote that we all astral project when we sleep. But to the great majority of us, our consciousness is asleep. So our consciousness is asleep while we astral project in our sleep. When we awaken the next morning we may remember some of our experiences in the astral world. We call them dreams. They are just dreams because we were not awake.
Dr. R.S. Clymer also wrote on the subject. He wrote extensively on "awakening the Christos." When asked to elaborate on the subject he answered that just as we "know" when we have awakened from a night of slumber, we will know when the "Christos" has awakened. I agree with him completely. Yes, just as we know we have awakened in the morning after a night of sleep, when we awaken in the astral world we will also know that we have awakened and that we are not in the physical world.
It's an awakening.
Here's how I describe astral projection.
When we go to sleep we leave our bodies and travel the astral world. But most of us have our consciousness asleep. So when we travel through the astral world we do it like a zombie. Completely asleep, completely unconscious. Some of us will remember some of our dreams (astral travels) but the majority of people do not even remember their dreams because their consciousness is thoroughly asleep.
A few of us sometimes awaken in the astral. When we do, the first thing that comes to our mind is "I am dreaming. I'm in a dream." Yes, you are dreaming. Yes, you are in your dream. Yes, you have awakened! You are now in the astral world. And you're fully awake and conscious of it!
So, is astral projection just a dream? Yes and no. It's just a dream when our consciousness is asleep and we merely remember our astral travels as a dream. It's not just a dream when we awaken and discover that we are in it.
Astral projection is an awakening.
