A few weeks ago I decided to take my peyote babies out so they could get some sun. I thought it would be a good idea to acclimate them to the outside because I planned to keep them outside once they were older. I left them out in the yard and I went out to complete some chores.
To my horror when I returned and went to the yard to check up on my peyote I discovered that they were all missing. No doubt one or more of the birds that frequent the yard found them appetizing and pecked them out. Damn! I was bummed out. I was furious! I decided to get even with the birds which had now crossed the line from cute chirping birds to pests. As to what I did, well that's for me to know and for the world to wonder.
But anyway, I immediately contacted my source and purchased another batch of seeds. They arrived a couple of days ago and I decided to plant them today, June 22, the second day of summer, just after the solstice. I also went to a local cactus nursery and purchased a San Pedro (Trichocereus Pachonai.) So now I have a young San Pedro also growing.
After my previous peyote seedlings were pecked out I decided to re-water the pots, cover them with plastic, and let them sit outside, just in hopes that maybe a late bloomer would surface. And guess what? Yesterday I pulled back the plastic off of the pot that had the L.W. Coahuila seedlings and lo-and-behold, almost in the middle of the pot I spotted something green. It was a small green ball. I looked at it closely and realized it was a late bloomer! Another one of the seeds from my previous batch of peyote had sprouted! AWESOME!!!! Since I discovered it yesterday I'm going to say that the lone survivor from my previous batch was born on the summer solstice 2019.
Here's an awesome song for the divine cacti.

Summer Solstice 2019
Happy Summer solstice everyone. This year it fell on a Friday. Great day for a festivity.
I originally planned to have a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern style feast but I have so much to do I have not prepared for anything festive yet. I sent a text to the usual suspects to see if they wanted to do anything tomorrow and now I am just waiting for their replies. If they do not want to do anything I'll do something on my own. But first I have to take care of some yard work and some house work. When that is done I'll decide what to do next.
Maybe I'll go out for a night in the town. Maybe I'll hit my old stomping grounds. I dunno. Maybe I'll just stay home and feast by myself. I'm not sure what I'll do, but I'll do something to celebrate the Summer solstice.

This image was titled "Full Moon of June and the Summer Solstice. It's so appropriate for this occasion. We had a full moon on June 17, four days ago. And if you have read my entries regarding the full moon you'll know that it's ominous to me. And this time around it was no different. There's no doubt in my mind that some people are still reeling from its effects. Unfortunately for the poor saps they're probably clueless as to why they had their mishaps. Look up! That huge silver disc in the sky did it!

Pacifica
Pacifica is a city in the Pacific ocean side of the San Francisco peninsula. Today on my way to Half Moon Bay I drove through Pacifica along Highway 1. This highway runs along the western side of California. Some stretches of the highway come very close to the coast and the Pacific Ocean can be seen close-up and clearly as you drive along it.
As I drove through Pacifica I drove along a stretch of the highway from where I could see a small beach just off the road.
WTF!!! I recognized it immediately. I had been here once before, in a dream! When I saw that beach I immediately recollected the dream which I had already forgotten about. In my dream I had been walking down by the beach. I remembered walking from the beach up to the road. I remembered being on that road (Highway 1).
Seeing that beach in real life almost made me wonder if maybe I had visited that beach once before in real life. But I do not recall ever going there in real life (except today), but I do remember being there in a dream.
That was awesome! Today I saw a beach I remember visiting in a dream.

Half Moon Bay
Today I made a trip to Half Moon Bay. It's a small town in the southern portion of the San Francisco peninsula. I went to the small nursery where I purchased my venus fly-trap and my sundew plants.
I could've ordered my pitcher plants online but I really wanted to take the trip and visit the nursery in person, so this morning I got into my car and made the trek to the nursery.
The woman who was there was very helpful and knowledgeable. I got some very useful information from her and I purchased my pitcher plant.
There are many varieties of the pitcher plant. The pitcher plant I chose is a standing one. It's very colorful and can grow to about three feet tall. Right now it's only about six inches tall.
While there I saw some sensitive plants. I had one as a child and have been wanting another one for quite some time. So today was perfect for getting it.
With my two plants in tow I headed back home.

My Baby Plants
A couple of weeks ago I got two sundews and one venus fly-trap. I potted them and took them to the yard so they could get all the sun they need. Both are predatory plants. They eat bugs.
I placed them on a table and exposed them to the air also. I was surprised that they weren't catching any insects. Today I saw that almost all of the flying insects were at ground level foraging and doing whatever insects do. After this nice rainy season our yard grew a ton of plants, mostly weeds. All these plants attract all sorts of insects, crawlers and flyers. So I decided to put my plants at ground level. I saw flies and gnats flying around the plants but no takers.
I left and came inside for about an hour or two. When I went back outside to check up on my plants I saw that the sundews had already trapped several gnats. The venus fly-trap was not so successful. But that's because the plant is very young and its existing traps have not opened fully. But they're still very much alive. I accidentally caused one to partially close when I tried to remove some debris from inside the trap. So yes, they're very much alive. They just need to open their traps so they can begin feeding on bugs.
I realize now that I have to "baby" my plants. I have to take them to the food source so they can feed.
