A few weeks ago I decided to take my peyote babies out so they could get some sun. I thought it would be a good idea to acclimate them to the outside because I planned to keep them outside once they were older. I left them out in the yard and I went out to complete some chores.
To my horror when I returned and went to the yard to check up on my peyote I discovered that they were all missing. No doubt one or more of the birds that frequent the yard found them appetizing and pecked them out. Damn! I was bummed out. I was furious! I decided to get even with the birds which had now crossed the line from cute chirping birds to pests. As to what I did, well that's for me to know and for the world to wonder.
But anyway, I immediately contacted my source and purchased another batch of seeds. They arrived a couple of days ago and I decided to plant them today, June 22, the second day of summer, just after the solstice. I also went to a local cactus nursery and purchased a San Pedro (Trichocereus Pachonai.) So now I have a young San Pedro also growing.
After my previous peyote seedlings were pecked out I decided to re-water the pots, cover them with plastic, and let them sit outside, just in hopes that maybe a late bloomer would surface. And guess what? Yesterday I pulled back the plastic off of the pot that had the L.W. Coahuila seedlings and lo-and-behold, almost in the middle of the pot I spotted something green. It was a small green ball. I looked at it closely and realized it was a late bloomer! Another one of the seeds from my previous batch of peyote had sprouted! AWESOME!!!! Since I discovered it yesterday I'm going to say that the lone survivor from my previous batch was born on the summer solstice 2019.
Here's an awesome song for the divine cacti.
